The image to the right shows how TrainCat logically holds data. Be assured, All of Your Inventory stays on your computer where it belongs. Your computer's hard drive will hold your Inventory along with a local copy of the MasterList. The drive space required by TrainCat is very small. Just 1Mb of drive space for every 3,000 item entries. That means a Hard Drive with 1Gb of space could hold 3 Million Inventory items. Now that's a collection!

The Internet connection is only required during the Import/Export process of Updates. The Import process begins when TrainCat contacts the server to check for any Updates and for Program Upgrades. Anything outstanding will be downloaded to the users machine and the Internet connection is disconnected. Most updates require only 2-3 minutes.

Updates are from new items being released and from other users contributing information that they have added and Exported to the server. Users are highly encouraged to Export items which they have added to their MasterList so that they may be posted for inclusion to the downloadable MasterList. If all users will take the moment of time to do this, all users will have a more concise list. Who knows, you just may benefit from another user's Export, and that is the reason everyone is encouraged to participate.
