Backing-Up Your Databases

Planning for and implementing a disaster recovery plan is essential in maintaining an Asset Management Program. Bad things do happen to computers and homes. Safe keeping of a copy of your data off-site is a key element in the disaster recovery scheme. TrainCat contains a Backup and Restore Utility to help accomplish this.

The Restore Utility is done through the TrainCat Database Utility program installed in to your program shortcuts during installation.

The backups will be placed into a sub-folder called "Backup" within the sub-folder called "Data" of the TrainCat install folder. These files have the backup date as part of the file name. Example: "Invt20030402.dbf". Some of the backup files are large and would require CD's to be burned (CD-R or CD-R/W) or use of external removable media such as ZIP drives. Be sure the backup you wish to restore from is contained in this folder before beginning.

Select the Restore Your Databases From A Backup option on the utility screen. TrainCat will automatically begin the process.

Since the process will overwrite your current tables, confirm your desire to proceed.

Select which backup you want to restore from by date. A progress bar on the screen bottom will indicate the completion of each table until all data has been backed-up.

The Database Utility will present an information box when the restore is complete.
